What's Happening in the Demo Garden?

Gardening for the week of January 22nd

Broccoli!
Broccoli!
What is that strange, unearthly light I see in the sky today? Why, it's the sun! Yes, yes, yes, we will be meeting in the Demo Garden this week with zero chance of any precipitation. On the program are: taking down the broccoli to begin composting under the soil in the vertical bed (fresh florets go home with all of us); gathering up dry leaves for the compost; planting onions, garlic and herbs; getting a jump on the weeds both inside and outside the fence (many thanks to Tina Heitzman who spent several hours already weeding around the extension building!); and planning and preparing the site for our new apple espalier tree. We will NOT be deadheading the roses; these are needed for the rose pruning class coming up in February. Don't forget to register for this free class here.
